What inspired me to become a barber? When I used to work at my mother’s beauty salon, I saw one of her hair stylists cutting a man’s hair one day. I saw the different techniques she was utilizing to cut this man’s hair. What really attracted me was to see how smooth she maneuvered the straight razor when shaving the gentleman’s face. I found it very interesting and different at that time because we only dealt with female clients. This motivated me to get my barbers license and expand my vision in the barber industry. So in my last semester of my high school I only had 2 classes left to graduate. I decided to go to barbering school right away when I finished. I decided to apply for my masters barbering license. I always knew that in the long term I wanted to become my own boss. I never liked to follow other people’s rules. After I accomplished my masters barbers license I was able to save up enough money and open up my own barbershop with my own rules and regulations. Now here I am with 16 years of barbering experience. I Love what I do. I also love that fact that I get to meet and interact with many different people .
Hello my name is Robert J. Suriel. I am 20 years old. I first started cutting hair when I was 13 years old. I used to go to a shop around my neighborhood after school where they taught me the fundamentals of becoming a barber. Started working on my craft and buildinding myself by making sure I improved every single day. I made sure that every haircut I did was better than the one before. I always dedicate adequate time to all my clients. My goal is to always make my clients happy and build a better future.
Hello my name is Saul Vargas and known in the barber industry as “El Tato”. When growing up I was always around the beautician and barbering industry because my parents own a beauty salon. What caught my interest in becoming a barber was my sister. She opened up a barbershop and I was always there. I started off by sweeping the floor, cleaning the mirrors, taking out the garbage, washing and heating up the towels. Majority of the time I was there I was building my arsenal of observing different skills and techniques other barbers utilized while cutting hair.
I started off by practicing how to use the straight razor on balloons. Once I was able to manage shaving the balloon without popping it, I told myself I could do this. When I started experimenting with shaving balloons I was only 13 years old. I started to tell my little cousins to come to the shop that I was going to cut their hair. They were a little afraid because they never saw me cut but eventually I convinced them.
After I proved myself to my sister, showed her my skills/ talent and begged her of course, she eventually set up a chair and station for me. By the time I was 14, I started to bring all my friends from the neighborhood and school to get a cut with me. I was making a decent amount of money for my age. Through many different encounters of different styles, I managed to always give each cut my all. Eventually I became a great barber.
Now I have 15 years of cutting hair professionally and I love what I do. I work hard to make my clients feel comfortable in the chair and provide phenomenal customer service so that their experience in my chair will be one to always remember.
